The idea behind FEED General Store is simple. Split between grocery and gift shop, dine-in or takeaway kitchen, the buying team prioritise locally produced and ethically made stock, and try to celebrate the best Heaton Chapel, Stockport, and Greater Manchester have to offer at every level. Proudly independent, the staff here radiate passion and enthusiasm for what they do, not to mention the incredible food and drink they sell over the counter. All of which reflects how the surrounding area has emerged as one of the most exciting boroughs in the city-region for epicurean delights.
Situated on Manchester Road, brightly coloured chairs and tables and a simple blue-white exterior make FEED almost-impossible to miss, and once inside the charm of the address is immediate. A cosy environment despite the deceptively large space — with seating spread over three floors — it’s the sort of place you can easily call at for milk and then wind up spending all afternoon in. Not least given the delightful kids corner, ideal for keeping little ones occupied with colouring books and other activities, while four-legged friends are also welcome, with dogs invited to join both indoors and outside.
Introductions done, the main focus at FEED General Store is on organic and seasonal dishes for those choosing to dine in or order and eat at home. As such, the menu is regularly in flux, but to give some idea you’ll find one of the best cooked breakfasts in the north here — meat, veggie and vegan available — along with a host of other brunch time favourites, from Granola and Yogurt to simple Sourdough Toast. Special shouts must go to the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Sandwich, and Indian Egg Bowl, the latter a great alternative to kedgeree. Suffice to say, the standard of the grub reflects the drinks, with exceptional coffee and juices aplenty here.
