In the big list of great places to head for a Manchester curry, Chorlton has always ranked pretty highly — a district with significant heritage in cuisine from across Asia’s iconic subcontinent. Hungamaa certainly lives up to that reputation, offering what the team describe as “authentic, pocket-friendly Indian street food… a delightful experience where guests will be enthralled by our delectable range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.” Situated on one of the area’s busiest thoroughfares, it’s now a well-established go-to for many in the neighbourhood, not to mention weekend and evening visitors.

“Prepare to enlighten your senses with incredible flavours and scents. Our extensive menu caters for many dietary requirements, so nobody is deprived of this true Indian experience. Our kitchen is operated by talented chefs who dedicate themselves to delivering high quality food that best represents our culture,” we’re told. In terms of the menu, this translates to a broad selection of famous and lesser-known plates. For example, starters like the classic Onion Bhaji and Punjabi Samosas, the Indo-Chinese delight Gobi Da Manchurian, and Schezwan Style Chips. Not to mention meat and fish options such as Chicken 65 (cooked in a Chinese sauce) and Prawns Kallwada.

Sharing platters are also available to kick off your meal, and Charcoal Grilled Starters are another highlight — vegan-friendly Soya Chaap, Malal Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Phool (broccoli) and Seekh Kebab. Beyond this, opt for South Indian delicacies such as Masala Dosa or Uttapam (savoury pancakes), or Indo-Chinese favourites like Veg Hakka Noodles before moving on to your mains. Now think Paneer Makhani, Baigan Ka Bharta (grilled aubergine, onions, tomatoes), Dahba Wali Daal (lentil and onion-tomato masala), Butter Chicken, Lamb Shank Rogan Josh, Malwani Fish Curry, or Prawn Balcho. There’s also a separate Biryani menu, a large range of Sides and a selection of Kids mains, all served with chips or rice.
