Welcome to The Con Club. Once a working man’s spot, today 48 Greenwood Street has been transformed into an all-day dining and drinking destination, spread across two spacious floors with seating also available in the equally spacious outdoor terrace. And like any good alfresco spot in Greater Manchester, the outside area is heated so you can enjoy it even when the weather isn’t amazing. Inspired by the owners and their global travels, but with its roots, heart and soul firmly in the community and our region, the emphasis here is on showcasing local producers, from butchers to breweries.

Open for breakfast, guests will find a wide range of ways to start the day, from Nutella and blueberry American-Style Pancakes, to The Con Club full English (toasted sourdough included), eggs benedict, smashed avocado and poached egg (with more sourdough, obvs) and salt beef and root hash. Juices are fresh, the bloody marys made precisely to order, and the smoothies delectable. At lunch, things switch up significantly. So think twice baked goat’s cheese soufflé, crab on toast, Colchester oysters, pork belly bites, more Yankee-inspired pancakes, and a host of sandwiches (spinach and mushroom, steak burger, Con Club dog).

Alternatively, punt for larger plates like fish and chips, crispy beef salad, panko Coated Chicken Kiev, harissa marinated lamb chops, or a kilo of tomahawk steak, best shared between two. Dinner elevates the offering again, whether that’s scallops with pea, chicken and chervil veloute, ham hock and grated cured egg yolk, pan roasted halibut, or a full rack of lamb. Not to mention Guinness braised beef cheek, or honey glazed pistachio, spinach, and feta filo pastry pie. The Con Club also does itself proud on the sushi front — uramaki, futomaki, omakase – and you can expect amazing ceviche and tartare here, too, during daytime and evening service. Add to all that talented cocktail makers, an expansive choice of specialist and imported beers, strong wine list and ‘hidden’ rooftop tipi, and you can see why people lose hours here.
