It’s June 2021 and someone just looked at plans for the soon-to-be-revitalised Stanley Square and realised there was no burger joint. Skip forward to today, and this part of Sale has firmly established itself as one of Greater Manchester’s best destinations for food and drink, alongside plants, flowers, green groceries, art pieces and more. A few moments away from all that, Yard Burgers has now also become an integral part of the neighbourhood, focusing on combining high quality patties with standout toppings to elevate their offering well above the norm.
Hidden round the corner from the main drags of Sale town centre, the set up defines letting your food do the talking, operating out of an old shipping container in the back yard of a hairdresser (hence the name), overlooking a supermarket loading bay. All the better for serving the public with some of the finest burgers they’ll find for miles around, “packing a fistful of flavour, whilst also paying homage to our quirky Mancunian slang and areas… Our Snobby Cow burger with truffle mayo, caramelised onion chutney, smoky streaky bacon and two slices of American cheese, with a 4oz smashed patty on top of a seeded brioche bun, is by far our top seller,” we’re told.
“That’s closely followed by our towering Dirty Manc, which is our take on a Big Mac. But the burgers aren’t the only thing that stand out,” the team add. Queue another list that includes both Dirty (mango chutney, curry mayo, fresh coriander, chillies, spring onions and crispy friend onions) and Salt & Pepper fries, alongside the Wafflin On Burger (4oz seasoned patty served between Belgian waffles, with baconnaise, cheese and frazzles), and Corn Ribs. Available for walk-ups, conversation guaranteed, from 12pm to 9pm Tuesday to Saturday, alongside orders via UberEats, Deliveroo, and the old phone.
