It’s no secret the streets around Didsbury are some of Manchester’s prettiest, proudest and greenest. This is particularly noticeable around the border between the Village itself, and the ‘West’ neighbourhood centred on and near Burton Road. And it’s here we find Zumuku Sushi sitting on a historic parade of shops along Lapwing Lane, a stone’s throw from the Metrolink stop and within walking distance of pretty much everything this part of the city has to offer. The point being, there’s plenty to take people away from the restaurant, so the fact it’s always so busy says a lot about how good it is.
The Zumuku team operate a number of establishments across the region, and much further afield (with dark kitchens located in places such as Glasgow, Cambridge and Nottingham, to name three), but part of the appeal is just how individual each one feels. Taking a lead from the location, subtle tweaks and changes ensure that while consistent in terms of quality and choice, visiting each address brings about a very different experience. Focusing on Didsbury, guests will immediately notice the ample starter selection. Chicken and duck gyoza, takoyaki, veg gyoza, chilli squid, all cooked to absolute perfection to get the taste buds going.
As you would guess, Zumuku is renowned for its sushi, and has consistently featured in Deliveroo’s ‘best of’ lists over the last few years for operations elsewhere in town. This joint is no different, with Nigiri, Maki, Sashimi, complex Uramaki, and incredible Omakaze Sharing Platters are all firm favourites. The latter hands control to the chef, who decides what to include in your 40 piece feast. Rice dishes, such as plant katsu and prawn raisukare, are another highlight, as are the black pepper beef and tofu. Or instead punt for a sushi taco, bao bun, noodle or poke bowl.
