Dirty Dancing is mambo-ing and shimmying it’s way back to Manchester’s Palace Theatre this May. To mark the occasion some of the cast popped up to our fine city to pay us a visit and host a Dirty Dancing masterclass.

A select few, along with Finest’s very own theatre editor Michelle Eagleton were invited along to the Northern Quarter’s Studio 25 to witness some of the iconic dances and try out some moves firsthand led by the UK tour’s associate choreographer Glenn Wilkinson.

Revealing there’s a huge 96 dance routines in the show Glenn talked through the unique names the company had given some of the new moves you’ll find in the stage show…namely the ‘sunbed’, ‘koala’ and wait for it…the ’bitch lift’!

Taking to the floor to demonstrate were cast members Jacquie Biggs and Tim Hodges who gave a stunning rendition of the moment Johnny dances with partner Penny in Kellermans near the beginning of the film, showing off their dance abilities to the full.

Our Michelle decided to give it a go and joined in on the action…but as you will see Michelle won’t be giving up the day job just yet though!

It’s clear the cast are a dedicated bunch with tons of stamina – their rehearsal sessions clock up 5 hours 3 times a week for 4 to 5 months leading up to the show going on tour. When Dirty Dancing visited Manchester last year it had an incredible reception from its audience who had the ‘time of their lives’-and judging by the reaction from us all at the masterclass it will be a hit once more with crowds in 2013.
