There is a good bit of news about Manchester and millennials this week though – we’ve been voted in the world’s top 10 ‘Best Cities for Millennials’ in a survey carried out by Nestpick.
They analysed 110 cities around the world, taking into consideration 4 major factors:
- Is there work available?
- Can you afford to live a good life?
- Is the city open and tolerant?
- And finally, can you have fun?
Within these larger categories, they also looked into micro factors such as gender equality, the start-up ecosystem and strangely enough, internet speed (because us millennials are always glued to our phones and laptops aren’t we?).
With all these in mind, Manchester – our fair city – came ranked number 10, which is pretty good considering they’ve ranked 110 cities around the world. As you’d expect, the top 10 also features some cracking cities such as Berlin (1), Barcelona (7) and pretty much the whole of Canada (Montreal 2, Toronto 5 & Vancouver 6).
Manchester’s highest score came under the ‘Access to Contraception’ category, scoring a whopping 9.5 out of 10. Anyone who has been down the village on a night will know that this is pretty much bang on the nose. We also scored very highly on ‘Personal Freedom and Choice’ and ‘LGBT Friendly’ – which is nice.
We also managed to beat every Australian city out there – so anyone who has decided that the weather isn’t for them and relocated down under – stick that up your didgeridoo.
Here’s the top 10 list:
- Berlin
- Montréal
- London
- Amsterdam
- Toronto
- Vancouver
- Barcelona
- New York City
- Cologne
